Introducing Aphex Insight 2.0
Originally published in December 2021

Today we launched the second iteration of our reporting and analytics app, Aphex Insight.
Insight 2.0 is a complete rebuild of our first MVP version, shaped by hundreds of user requests and many long hours from our team. Below, Aphex’s COO and Product Leader, Jason Lancini, shares why we built it and where it’s headed.
Why We Built Insight
A lot has changed in construction technology over the last few years - drones, robotics, AI. Everywhere you look, companies are racing to digitise. But when we talk to our customers, the people actually building the infrastructure around us, much of their day still looks like it did five or even ten years ago (though more of it happens in sweatpants now).
Projects are bigger, more complex, and harder to manage. Teams juggle more moving parts than ever, but keeping across the work and spotting issues before they cause delays has only become harder.
Faced with this, teams do the logical thing: add process, run more meetings, build dashboards. But behind the dashboards is the same story — disconnected systems, spreadsheet wizardry, and hours lost exporting, formatting, and charting data.
We saw the opportunity: harness the data already being generated in Aphex every day, and distil it into insights that could actually help teams act faster.
The Problem With Legacy Reporting
Producing reports wasn’t the hard part, timing was. By the time a planner had finished formatting data into a spreadsheet, the moment for corrective action had already passed.
We realised that truly impactful data had to skip the middleman. It needed to be clear, simple, and instantly available to the people who could act on it.
That’s when we set ourselves the goal: rebuild Insight to give everyone on a project a way to quickly understand what happened, what didn’t, and what is or will be causing project delay.
Insight 2.0: Where Everyone Understands What Happened
That’s why we rebuilt Insight: a reporting app for the whole project team. Think of it as the simple project dashboard that’s always up to date and always accessible.
- For project managers – keep a finger on the pulse.
- For engineers – step back and see the bigger picture.
- For planners – build and share reports quickly, without spreadsheets.

We’re still committed to giving advanced users full access to data through our APIs, raw exports, and Power BI connector. But Insight 2.0 is about something different: distributing simplified, actionable insight directly to the teams responsible for delivery
Built for Action (and Collaboration)
We’ve packed in features to make Insight a place where data turns into action:
- Drill down: every chart can be inspected to reveal the actual tasks driving the results.
- Take action: tasks can be opened directly from within Insight. No switching apps.
- Share with context: instead of static screenshots, sharing a report URL lets colleagues pick up exactly where you left off.
Goodbye screenshots, hello real collaboration.
Available Now
Starting today, Insight 2.0 is available to all users on our paid plans at no additional cost. Users on free plans can request a trial upgrade to Pro.
We hope Insight 2.0 becomes a valuable part of your toolkit. And if you try it, let us know what you think — because our goal remains simple: to give every team the tools to make their plans happen.
